Tough start for athletics at CAC Games

Cayman Islands athletes opened their quest for success in athletics at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia over the weekend.
On the track, Rasheem Brown and Jeavhon Jackson competed on Sunday, 29 July, in the men’s 100m and 400m hurdles, respectively.
Brown finished 7th in his head with a time of 10.89 sec and was 27th fastest of 28 competitors, with only Wikenson Fenelon of Turks and Caicos Islands slower in 10.97 sec.
The 18-year-old now turns his attention to his pet event, the 110m hurdles. He is slated to run his semi-final at 6:40 p.m. on Monday, 30 July.
Meantime, Jackson was bottom of the field, finishing 8th in his 400m hurdles semi-final in 56.60 sec.
Cayman’s other athletics competitors get going later in the week.
Women’s national record holder in the discus and shot put opens her games on Tuesday. First up for her is the discus, with the shot put taking place the following day.
Alex Pascal, the national record holder in the men’s javelin, competes in that event on Thursday.
