Meals on Wheels gets CIFA donation

The Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) last Thursday made a donation to Meals on Wheels from the proceeds of its Men’s Charity Shield match between Scholars International and Elite Sports Club the previous weekend.

“Meals on Wheels is a very good programme in terms of looking out for the community,” said CIFA President Lee Ramoon as he presented a $1,000 cheque to Beulah McField, the director of Meals on Wheels.

Ms McField was thankful for the support shown from the sporting community.

“Every penny that’s donated goes toward the feeding of a senior. It doesn’t go toward any other cause, administration or otherwise. So, this will definitely put more food on the tables of those seniors who truly need it. Just to have the Football Association acknowledge Meals on Wheels is another blessing because it means one more person out there that’s thinking about the seniors,” she said.

Meals on Wheels serves 200 hot meals each day to senior citizens in Grand Cayman, who would otherwise likely go without such nourishment. At the moment, they have a presence in all five districts. The main kitchen is at its headquarters in George Town, with other kitchens in Bodden Town, East End and North Side.

Around 18 seniors in West Bay are served from the George Town facility. However, Ms McField said the plan is to open a kitchen in the district to feed more people there.  “It is our hope and we have funds set aside to begin redesigning a building in West Bay to be able to go in there fully and serve the 100-plus that we have already identified,” she explained.
