Junior golfers look to book national team spots

Two qualifying rounds of the RSM Junior National Team Qualifiers were held on 11 and 25 November 2018.

Golfers ages 11 through 18 competed in a series of four 18-hole tournaments to earn qualifying positions on the team that will represent the Cayman Islands at the Caribbean Amateur Junior Championships in July 2019 to be held in the Bahamas.

The Qualifier held on 11 November was played at the North Sound Golf Club while the second Qualifier on 25 November was played at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman Golf Club.

The boys and girls are playing for spots in the 16-18, 14-15 and 11-13 age groups.

In the girls 14-15 age group, Holly Mclean shot 73, 79 while Lauren Needham shot 82, 86.

Aaron Jarvis, playing in the boys 16-18 age group off the black tees, shot 72, 80.

The boys 14-15 age group played off the blue tees with Justin Hastings shooting 76, 83, Andrew Hastings shooting 81, 89, Todd Purton shooting 89, 95 and Tom Dickens 85 (he was injured for qualifier round 1).

In the boys 11-13 age group, playing off the white tees, four golfers competed for two spots. Scores were Danny Lyne 83, 77, James Rees 94, 94, Sam Maclean 90, 94, and Matthew Rees 111, 103.

The third of four qualifying rounds will be held at The Ritz Carlton Golf Club on Sunday, 3 February 2019.

The best three scores for each golfer will be counted toward their final score to determine the qualifiers for each age group.

The Junior Team for the Championships will be announced in mid-March.
