Defending champs bounced from cup

Roma will not get to celebrate with the President's Cup as they did last season.
Roma United’s miserable run of form has seen the club eliminated from the 2016/17 CIFA President’s Cup at the first hurdle on Sunday, 11 December.
The club, which won the tournament last season, was shutout 3-0 by Cayman Athletic at the Ed Bush Sports Complex Sunday evening. 16 year-old forward Kareem Foster put Athletic ahead nine minutes after the opening whistle. Captain Stephen Tatum added a second just before the half. Sullivan Zelaya added another for good measure three minutes into added time of the second half.
Roma, which is languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table, will use the Christmas break to right the ship and focus on avoiding relegation from the top-flight.
Strikes from Karl Solomon and Kyle Leon put Bodden Town FC past Sunset FC at the Annex. The Cayman Premier League leaders were kept scoreless by Sunset through the first 45. Sunset rarely threatened, and on the handful of times they did breach the Bodden Town defence, goalkeeper Ramon Sealy stood strong between the posts. His fine finger tipped save from a Peter Boda drive on seven minutes set the tone for an assured performance from the national team’s number one.
Solomon broke the deadlock eight minutes into the second half, set up by a brilliant pass from Sealy. Leon found the back of the net in the 71st as Bodden Town held on for the 2-0 win.
Academy SC may have the longest unbeaten streak in the league this year, having gone the last four games without a loss but that streak did not extend to the President’s Cup. Latinos FC proved to be too much on the day at the Annex thanks to a brace from Nahun Rodriguez. His two first half goals (19th, 37th) were the only scores of the game, as Latinos won 2-0 to advance. Academy finished with 10 men after Travis McLean was given a straight red in the 73rd minute following an off the ball incident.
It took penalties to separate Scholars International from Elite SC at Ed Bush Sports Complex in the late game Sunday. Scholars move on with a 4-1 advantage on kicks from the spot. Jorge Murillo, Cesar Fajardo, Jamar Dickens and Dwight Dunk found the back of the net for the defending league champs, while Benjamin Cupid was the only player to do so for Elite.
The semi-finals will be played in a home and away format with games scheduled for 5 and 19 February, 2017. The President’s Cup final will be played on Ash Wednesday, 1 March.
