Double honours for Elite Sports Club
- Updated: 24 February 2017
Elite Sports Club is having a good run so far in the senior football season. It is tops in the women’s league and will play in the President’s Cup on Ash Wednesday, and the men’s team has the most potent offense in the Cayman Premier League, sitting second in the standings.
So, it should come as no surprise that the club has some quality talent on its rosters. And as fate would have it, last week’s Cayman Sports Buzz Footballer of the Week presented by Futbolista World was unable to make it to the scheduled presentation, then another Elite player stood out on the pitch this past weekend. So, while the club is chasing a double in league play, it can settle for double award winners.
Shenel Gall came up big for the women’s team when they needed her the most and scored the two goals against Scholars International that guaranteed the club a spot in the CIFA Women’s President’s Cup final against Sunset FC on 1 March. She is this week’s Cayman Sports Buzz Footballer of the Week presented by Futbolista World.
A week earlier, Dwayne Wright was busy setting up goals and scoring himself to lead the men’s team to a 3-2 win over Latinos FC and maintain second spot in the Cayman Premier League standings. Always a contender for the award, his overall performance on 12 February landed him the honour.
At a brief ceremony, they were each presented with a certificate, a Futbolista World sports shirt, and a gift certificate to be used toward new gear at Futbolista World. They have also been entered into a draw to win an additional prize from Futbolista World at the end of the season.
Each week, Cayman Sports Buzz will select a player for the Footballer of the Week honour based on their performance in any of the following leagues: Cayman Premier League, CIFA Women’s Premier League, CIFA First Division, CIFA youth leagues and the CUC Primary Football League/Girls Primary Football League.
At the end of the season, Cayman Sports Buzz will be presenting a more substantial award to the Footballer of the Year.
