CAL U15 Cup: Here’s the schedule
- Updated: 28 April 2017
The Cayman Islands national team has been drawn in a pool against teams from the United States and Jamaica for the 2017 Cayman Airways Invitational U15 Youth Football Cup, while defending champions Manchester City are grouped with two Major League Soccer academies and Caribbean powerhouse Trinidad & Tobago.
The tournament spans six days, starting Tuesday 2 May and culminating with the championship on Sunday 7 May. A dozen teams, placed into three groups, will be competing in the tournament that will be played in Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac. Visiting teams have been attracted from Bahamas, Cuba, England, Honduras, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, and the United States.
The Cayman Islands National U15 side has been selected for Group A play along with IMG Academy from Florida, Alchemy from Minnesota, and Cavalier Soccer Club from Jamaica.
Team Cayman opens play on the second day of the tournament (Wednesday, 3 May) against IMG Academy, one of the teams returning from last year. Kick-off for that match is scheduled to be 6:30 p.m. at Ed Bush Sports Complex in West Bay. The second test for the hosts will be against Alchemy on Thursday, 4 May at the same venue starting at 8:00 p.m.
Their final group game will be against Jamaican neighbours, Cavalier Soccer Club, another returning club. This will be played at Ed Bush Sports Complex on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
Meantime, Manchester City’s clash with Trinidad and Tobago’s national team is one of the headlining clashes of the opening day. They play at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex at 8:00 p.m., while the other day one match-up in that group opens the tournament with MLS academies from Houston Dynamo and D.C. United kick off the tournament at 5:30 p.m. at the same venue.
