National 100m record holder, Kemar Hyman, said he’s disappointed with the time he ran at the Olympics in Rio de Janerio over the weekend, when he was eliminated from competition after the first round.

Hyman, who has a season’s best time of 10.12 seconds, was significantly off that pace on Saturday, 13 August, when he completed the sprint in 10.34 seconds to finish seventh in his heat.

“It wasn’t a great race but I went out there and did my thing. I’m very disappointed [with] the time,” he said.

“I guess it was just one of those days where it just happened but I definitely could have made the semis and advance from there on. I’m very disappointed with the time but I went out there and gave it a good shot and, at the end of the day, that’s all that counts,” the Florida State University graduate said.

Jamaica’s Usain Bolt created history when he won the event for the third straight Olympic Games – the first ever to do so – with a time of 9.81 seconds.

Hyman, whose lifetime best time is 9.95 seconds set in 2012, was still searching for answers a day after his run in Rio.

“I’m not sure what happened. I wasn’t injured or [anything]. I went out there and gave it my best shot and it just didn’t turn out in my favour,” the sprinter said.

“If I was to be picky, I’d say maybe [I needed to] execute longer and a little bit better but as far as that, even when I was running down the track, I felt really good, I felt like this was definitely that 10.0 (seconds0 or definitely I’m going to qualify for the semis, which I’ve done already – four years ago – but I don’t know. It just wasn’t in my favour this time.”

Despite being far from his best, Hyman tried to remain upbeat.  “I’m not going to beat myself down. What I’ll do from here is maybe talk to my coach about future plans…and see where we go from there.”
