Academy, Athletic win at Annex
- Updated: 3 October 2016
Academy Sports Club and Cayman Athletic SC both posted victories in their opening fixtures of the 2016-17 Cayman Premier League campaign at the Annex on Sunday.
In the early kickoff, Academy relied on two late goals to get three points from their match against Sunset FC. Yolande Plummer and Jonah Ebanks scored in the 84th and 88th minutes, while the side did not concede any goals to give new coach Jack Brazil his first win in charge.
The next game featured newly promoted Latinos FC against Cayman Athletic. After a scoreless first half, Clevin Bello Smith found the back of the net for Athletic in the 50th minute. That goal was the difference, as Athletic handed Latinos a loss in their return to the local top-flight for the first time since the 2008-09 season.
All four teams are back in action next Sunday (9 October). Cayman Athletic faces Bodden Town FC, which won their opener against Elite. That match will be played at the Annex starting at 4:45 p.m. Also at that venue will be Academy SC against Elite SC with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. At the Ed Bush Sports Complex, Sunset FC will meet Roma United at 4:45 p.m. followed by a clash between Latinos FC and reigning champions Scholars International.
