The first ever Cayman Sports Buzz Footballer of the Year Awards takes place Wednesday, 27 September with trophies and prizes being presented to the male and female Footballer of the Year, as well as to the male and female Emerging Footballer of the Year.

The awards celebrate those with outstanding performances during the 2016/17 domestic football season and builds on the Cayman Sports Buzz Footballer of the Week presented by Futbolista World given out throughout last season.

“It was a tough ask to select the best of the best,” said CaymanSportsBuzz.com editor Ben Meade. “So, it’s no surprise that we have a tie for one of the awards.”

He said this was just one way that private entities and individuals can give back to the community. For him, it is about using his professional talents to serve the community.

“If through our coverage of the various sports and highlighting outstanding performances with our Footballer of the Week and Footballer of the Year awards, we can play some small part in helping to encourage just one young athlete to pursue their dreams, then we can say we’ve achieved something,” Meade said, pointing out that similar awards are planned for other sports.

“We’re not here to replace anything being done already but to find more ways to celebrate the best of sports in the Cayman Islands,” he added.

The ceremony will be broadcast live and can be viewed here starting at 6:30 p.m. The event will also be broadcast on our Facebook page. We will also be revealing the winners via social media at the same time they are announced at the ceremony.
