Bodden Town’s late goal love affair
- Updated: 5 December 2016
Bodden Town FC retook the lead of the Cayman Premier League table heading into the Christmas break, taking a two-point edge on Elite after the latest round of matches.
Cayman Athletic 1, Bodden Town 2
Once again showcasing their flair for the dramatic and love affair with winning on a late goal, Bodden Town FC relied on a stoppage time tally from Casey McLaughlin to edge Cayman Athletic at the Annex on Sunday night.
Kyle Santamaria gave Athletic the early lead in the 4th minute. Ricoh Brown found the back of the net for the fourth time this season with his 32nd minute leveller. As full time approached, Casey McLaughlin, returning to action, scored the winner two minutes into added time to give Bodden Town FC their sixth win in nine games.
Elite SC 1, Academy SC 1
Entering the weekend top of the standings due to superior goal difference over Bodden Town, Elite looked to maintain that position before a month-long break in league play. However, they faced an Academy side that had not surrendered points in three weeks.
Academy led at the half, thanks to a 10th minute strike from 16 year-old Kion Parchmont. Elite equalised eight minutes into the second half with John Ortega Fox getting the goal.
The teams split the points. After the club’s second draw of the season, Elite now has 17 points, two adrift from Bodden Town, while Academy is third with 16 points.
Roma United 1, Sunset FC 2
Roma United’s struggles continued, failing to pick up points for the third straight week, as Sunset FC picked up their third win of the season.
Dexter Sharp continued to be a bright spot for the side at the bottom of the standings, scoring for the third straight week for Roma. His 24th minute goal put Roma up 1-0. Matthew Kitching pulled Sunset level just before the half and the energetic Tom Chipchase put Sunset ahead for good in the 52nd minute.
This was Sunset’s second win in three weeks.
Scholars International 0, Latinos FC 0
The early kick-off at the Annex saw defending champions, Scholars International meeting the newly-promoted Latinos FC for the second time during the 2016-17 campaign. As with their 9 October fixture, the sides split the points. On the first occasion, they each scored two goals.
Scholars has 14 points, while Sunset and Latinos each have 10 points.
All eight Cayman Premier League teams are back in action on 11 December for the quarterfinals of the President’s Cup.
