‘Christmas Cup’ gives clubs additional games
- Updated: 13 December 2017
Five clubs competing in the CIFA Premier League will pick up additional competitive matches during the ‘Christmas Cup’ organised by Academy Sports Club.
Other participating teams in the competition that kicks off on 13 December are Future Sports Club, George Town Sports Club, Roma United, and Tigers Football Club. The ‘Christmas Cup’ is not sanctioned by the Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA).
Jack Brazil, who coaches the Academy SC men’s side, said the rationale behind the cup being contested during the Christmas Break of the CIFA Premier League season is to increase competitive games for participating teams.
“Whilst some clubs have had the majority of their fixtures pre-Christmas, the weather and ‘super league’ plan has negatively affected some teams who have only played four competitive games before Christmas,” Brazil said.
“Therefore, we deemed it necessary to organise a tournament for interested teams during one of our breaks. We will aim to organise more in coming breaks afforded to us to maintain interest and passion in football within Cayman,” he added.
Teams will play each other once in a league format with the winner being the team with the most points at the end.
The opening fixture features Roma United vs George Town at the Annex on Wednesday (13 December) at 7:30 p.m.
Other scheduled games are:
Friday 15 December: Roma United vs Tigers FC – 7:30 p.m. at the Annex
Friday 15December: George Town SC vs Future SC – 7:30 p.m. at Ed Bush Sports Complex
Sunday 17 December: Future SC vs Tigers FC – 7:00 p.m. at Ed Bush Sports Complex

Friday 29 December: Tigers FC vs Academy SC – 7:30 p.m. at the Annex
“We hope by running a successful tournament this time, we will garner extra interest the next time we organise a similar competition,” said Brazil.
