Coach ‘Gillie’ suspended
- Updated: 23 April 2018
Cayman Athletic Sports Club technical director and head coach of the national U20 football team, Ernie ‘Gillie’ Seymour, has been suspended by the Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) after making an obscene gesture during a recent premier league match.
CIFA officials confirm the two-month ban applies to CIFA Premier League competitions. This means in addition to missing the end of the just concluded league season, Seymour was unavailable for Cayman Athletic’s President’s Cup game against George Town SC on 22 April.
However, the suspension does not apply to other competitions, including the various youth leagues that the club competes in.
When asked by CaymanSportsBuzz.com about how this development impacts Seymour’s role as national U20 head coach, CIFA President Alfredo Whittaker said Seymour remains in charge of the squad as it makes its preparations for the CFU U20 World Cup qualifiers this summer.
