Cole cleans up on the road

Tiffany Cole won her third straight race of the Fidelity Fun Run Series on Saturday, 24 September, to claim the women’s overall title.

The 345 Athletics Club runner did have to overcome some adversity to pull off the feat, having suffered a head cold the night before the final race.

“It was [a challenge]. I was sick last night. I actually surprised myself,” she said after crossing the line of the two-mile race in 12 minutes 26.6 seconds, just ahead of teammate Molly Kehoe (12:29.2), who trailed her to the finish for a third consecutive week.

Cole (273) and Kehoe were consistently the top two female runners.

“I was giving Molly a run for her money, seeing what she had in her tank. So, I decided it was best to stick with her and surprised myself when I came through at the line,” Cole told CaymanSportsBuzz.com of her strategy.

“I wasn’t sure what I had in me based on how I was feeling [the night before]. I was trying to just go with the flow, see what she was doing and try to keep up with her.”

Kiara McLaughlin was 3rd overall.

Cole was full of praise for the younger Kehoe, who described as a “phenomenal athlete” and rising star in distance running in the Cayman Islands.

“I think she did tremendously. She’s only 12 year-old and staying up with the top runners in the Cayman Islands. I think she’ll be taking over very, very soon and probably passing me too as we get older.

Kiara McLaughlin, another 345 Athletics Club runner, did not compete in week three but her earlier two third place finishes were enough to secure her spot as third overall.

Rianna Rankin won the Girls Under 12 age group after two second place finishes and a top spot in the finale. Maryn McCoombs in the Girls 12-14 category and Marlena Williams topped the Girls 15-19 group.
