Lewis ready for her big leap
- Updated: 13 April 2017
It’s not her first time on the big stage but Aijah Lewis is ready to leap her way to glory at the Flow CARIFTA Games in Curacao this weekend.
Lewis, 16, finished 12th in the U18 girls long jump in 2016 with a mark of 5.13 metres is back for another game and brimming with confidence as she gets set to compete in the same event, as well as the high jump.
“I feel that I’m in [good] form to compete and end up placing with a medal this year,” she told CaymanSportsBuzz.com.
Lewis, who has posted personal best marks this season of 1.69 metres in the high jump and 5.34 in the long jump said her experience at the regional championships should help her attain her goals for the 2017 Games.
“I won’t get as nervous this time because I’m more comfortable at the games, since this is my third year,” she said.
Asked which event she was more confident about, Lewis replied: “I feel I’m stronger in the high jump compared to the long jump. I should be in place for second or third.”
The jumper is part of a 15-athlete team that left Thursday for the 15-17 April games.
CaymanSportsBuzz.com will have regular updates throughout the weekend.
