Rain no match for young golfers

Young golfers played for the Elite Marble & Granite Junior U.S. Open Major that was held at The Ritz Carlton, Blue Tip Golf Club on Sunday, 3 June, 2018.

Golfers, whose ages ranged from 10 to 16, played on a tough course set up, and also had to deal with a one-hour rain delay during the tournament.

The format was an 18-hole stroke play tournament with all golfers, boys and girls, playing in a single field, with the older, more experienced juniors playing longer yardages from the blue tees and the younger golfers playing from the white and red tees.

Aaron Jarvis and Justin Hastings played from the blue tees Andy Hastings, Todd Purton, and Holly Mclean played from gold tees and Sam McLean and Lauren Needham played from the green tees.

Aaron and Justin demonstrated that experience plays a significant role in these tough conditions. Defending champion Aaron repeated his 2017 win by shooting an impressive 3 under par 69, with Justin taking second place shooting 77. His younger brother Andrew placed third place with 78.

The 18-hole stroke play format in these Major Tournaments gives the more experienced golfers additional tournament play exposure as they prepare to play events such as the annual Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships held this year at the Caymanas Golf Club in Kingston, Jamaica and other Junior golf tournaments in the USA and UK.
