Shooting Stars to take the court
- Updated: 11 July 2018
Young basketballers are given another opportunity to shine at the 4th Annual Shooting Stars 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament hosted by Star 92.7.
Returning as the tournament immediately following Camana Bay’s Mixed Sports and Basketball Camp, the “buckets of fun” competition will be held on Saturday, 28 July at the Arts and Recreation Centre. It is free and open to co-ed teams in the 7-9, 10-12 and 13-15 age category.
“In showcasing Cayman’s top young talent, the Shooting Stars 3-on-3 competition will be centred on four core values – teamwork, respect, determination, and community – that will set a new standard in youth basketball development…the competition will promote standards of safe play as well as camaraderie between teammates and opponents,” said Star 92.7 Programme Director John Watler.
Star 92.7 has partnered with the National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) once again. Funds raised will be allocated to NCVO’s Caring Cousins Lunch Support Programme which caters to Caymanian students at public schools in Grand Cayman as well as Cayman Brac. It allows for recipients to have a hot lunch and snack each school day.
“This is our second time at this event and it is such great fun. We hope people come out to not only watch the up-and-coming basketball stars of Cayman and celebrate them but also to visit our booth. We are thankful to Star 92.7 for once again choosing us as the beneficiary of this event and we look forward to serving participants, spectators and parents at our food stall as 100% of food sales will go directly to the NCVO’s lunch programme,” said NCVO Chief Executive Officer Angela Sealey.
Ahead of the event Star 92.7 thanked 2018 sponsors NCVO, Camana Bay, Watler & Hislop Services Limited, Cox Lumber, Rubis, No1 Shoe Shop and the Cayman Islands Basketball Association for their dedication to the care, education and well –being of children and families in need of support in the Cayman Islands by staging the highly anticipated tournament.
Registration may be done online at star927cayman.ky or on the day of the event, however space is limited and will be done on a first-come, first-serve basis for all late registrants.
