Strong start for Academy at Disney Cup

Academy Sports Club’s youth teams have made a strong showing to start the Disney Cup International 2018, now underway at the ESPN World Wide of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida.

The U17 boys team sat atop the standings of their competition through three games with their victories coming against teams from Brazil.

They opened with a 3-0 win over Next Academy Brazil on 16 July and picked up a 3-1 triumph over Viagens Esportivas Marista a day later. On Wednesday, 18 July, their winning streak was extended with a 9-1 hammering of Go USA 17.

The U15 boys were also leaders in their bracket through two games. Wins came against PSG Brazil, 4-0 on 17 July, and 5-0 against Osceola Assault Elite from Florida.

Also riding high were the U11 boys. They led their standings through Wednesday as well with two wins and a draw.

They beat AVA Racing of Brazil 7-5 in a high scoring affair to open their campaign on 16 July. Next up was a 2-2 draw against Esportee Pincheros, another Brazilian side, a day later. Then they put 10 goals past Highlands United Soccer Club of Florida for the shutout win on 18 July.

It was tougher going for the U13 boys in their gold division. They were on the wrong end of a 1-0 result to SVG Academy from Morocco on 16 July, with Manasota Youth Soccer Lions of Florida beating them 3-0 the following day. A 5-0 loss to Datastax Florida Lions followed.

The tournament runs until 22 July.
