Swimming season opens this Saturday
- Updated: 4 September 2018
The 2018/19 competitive swimming season in the Cayman Islands opens on Saturday, 8 September, with an event marking its 34th year – the Annual Foster’s Food Fair IGA Sea Swims.
The races at Governor’s Beach hosted by the Cayman Islands Aquatic Sports Association (CIASA) feature an open 800m swim followed by a 400m for swimmers 12 and under.
Registration begins at 3:00 p.m. and cuts off at 3:45 p.m., 15 minutes before the scheduled start of the race.
Fees for the 800m event are CIASA members: $10 for children and $15 for adults. For non-CIASA members, the fees are $15 for children and $20 for adults.
As is the norm, officials are keeping an eye on the weather. “Please note that if weather conditions threaten the safety of the swimmers, or organisers and volunteers, the race may be cancelled at the discretion of the Race Director,” a CIASA statement noted.
There will be a new winner of the event, as John Bodden, who has dominated in the open water 800m events in the past couple of years, is away at university.
