Top 10 finish for Cayman at UANA Cup

The Cayman Islands came away with a solid top 10 finish at the UANA Swimming Cup 2018 from 19-21 January in Coral Springs, Florida.
Nearly 400 swimmers from 33 countries from the Caribbean, South America and Central America competed in the Swimming Union of the Americas event at the Coral Springs Aquatic Complex. The Cayman Islands was represented by a team of 17 swimmers: 11 females and six males.
At the end of three days of competition, Cayman finished ninth overall. Mexico, Brazil and Argentina took the top spots. The 113.5 points secured were fourth highest among teams from the Central American and Caribbean Amateur Swimming Confederation (CCCAN) behind Barbados, Bahamas and Trinidad & Tobago.
Important to note: the competition was held in a 50m pool; whereas their local preparations are limited with all facilities in Grand Cayman maxing out at 25m.
On the first day, Cayman’s swimmers produced eight personal bests out of 27 races. Stefano Bonati, Corey Frederick-Westerborg, Sarah Jackson and Jordan Crooks all beat their personal best seed times with impressive performances.
Saturday’s session continued with good form with Jake Bailey, Jillian Crooks, Corey Frederick-Westerborg, Jordan Crooks, Sarah Jackson, Stefano Bonati and Stephanie Royston all achieved new personal best times in their respective races.
The team was also solid in a variety of relays.
