U15 girls beat Antigua and Barbuda
- Updated: 13 August 2016
The Cayman Islands Under-15 Girls football team rebounded from their tournament opening loss with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Antigua & Barbuda on Saturday, 13 August at the CONCACAF U15 Girls’ Championship.
After falling to Bermuda two days earlier, Cayman dominated their opponents from the Eastern Caribbean in the match being played at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida.
Arthemis Deslandes-Hydes put Cayman ahead in the 8th minute. Daniella Gourzong doubled the lead with a penalty kick in the 15th minute and Sabrina Suberan scored in the 63rd minute.
Cayman returns to the pitch on Sunday, 14 August against the Bahamas, needing a win to advance to the quarterfinals.
Ahead of the tournament, Martha Godet, the coordinator of the Cayman Islands Football Association’s women’s programme, said she hoped the experience in Orlando would be character building for the girls.
“We’re always looking for growth and development and this is a great opportunity for us to develop our players, build confidence and the opportunity to compete,” she said.
“I’m very pleased with the sessions that they have been training in preparation for the championships … and I’m very pleased with the quality of play and training that they have implemented in the past year or so.”
