Alliance, North Side clash tops First Division billing

A clash between Alliance FC and North Side FC highlights a day of game in the CIFA First Division, as league-leading George Town SC sits out on Saturday, 14 January.

North Side, which just missed out on promotion to the Cayman Premier League at the end of last season, sits second in the standings behind George Town.

The team has been a juggernaut when it comes to finding the back of the net, with 20 goals from five games – more than any other team in the league. In fact, Guiton King’s nine tallies are more than half of the clubs playing in the First Division. Floyd McKenzie is also off to a hot start with six goals.

They’ll be tested by Alliance FC, which sits fifth in the standings but with much ground to make up having only played three games, winning two and losing the other. A win for North Side can see them go level on points with George Town. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. at the Annex.

In other fixtures: East End United goes in search of their first win from four games when they meet Academy SC, which is also winless. Both squads are filled with young ballers and can consider this season more about development but a win would make things a bit sweeter. Kickoff is 8:00 p.m. at Bodden Town.

In the day’s early game, fourth-placed Future FC, which has picked up points in three of its four outings can close the gap on the leaders with a strong showing against fellow West Bay club, Elite SC. Like Academy, Elite has fielded a second senior team to give more players valuable match experience. Their first division squad has a win, a draw and a loss in three fixtures played. Future and Elite meet at the Ed Bush Sports Complex starting at 5:45 p.m.

Other inactive clubs this week are Cayman Brac FC and Savannah Tigers.
