Allan hits the water
- Updated: 8 August 2016
Florence Allan hit the water in Guanabara Bay Monday (8 August) as the Women’s Laser Radial sailing competition opened at the 2016 Olympics.
Allan will be sailing among 37 athletes from around the world in the event, which runs until 13 August.
The 18 year-old is making her Olympic debut and is the third Cayman Islands athlete to participate in the Games so far. Swimmers Geoffrey Butler and Lara Butler competed over the weekend. Although neither advanced from the heats of their events, Lara set a national record in the women’s 100m backstroke (1:04.98).
“I’m just trying to keep an open mind and just be ready for anything,” Allan said ahead of the event.
CaymanSportsBuzz.com will have updates as the competition progresses.
