Darts Association aiming for good year
- Updated: 13 January 2017
A new executive has taken the lead of the Cayman Islands Darts Association, aiming to make 2017 a big year for the sport on the local scene.
“This year is very critical for our preparations for the Caribbean Championships,” said President Cassius Anglin. He said tournaments this year will determine who will attend the regional championships in Trinidad and Tobago next year.
The Cayman Islands boasts two runner-up finishes at the 2016 tournament in Barbados: Hank Ebanks (male) and Adrian Anglin (youth).
Joining Anglin on the executive are: Rodan Asuncion – Vice President; Elvira Meighan – Secretary; Michelle Cullen – Treasurer; Martin Bodden – Tournament Director; John Nixon – Technical Director; and Carol Johnson – Fundraising.
As they try to keep the sport vibrant in the Cayman Islands, Anglin said corporate support is essential. “Every sporting organisation needs funds. We’re looking for more sponsors to help us,” Anglin told CaymanSportsBuzz.com.
The president said the association’s plans for this year include holding a successful league and as many tournaments as possible – three are planned so far.
The 2017 calendar gets started with the opening of the association’s league on 18 January at Popo Jebs on North Church Street before play begins on 25 January at various venues across Grand Cayman. Top players in the league will be eligible to represent the Cayman Islands in Trinidad next year.
A meet and greet was held at Fidel Murphy’s on 11 January for people to find out more about what’s in store and to sign up for the league. However, anyone who missed it and is interested can contact the association on caymandartsassociation@gmail.com or call Cassius Anglin (925-7212), Rodan Asuncion (917-6619), or Martin Bodden (916-0509).
