FA Cup first round match-ups drawn
- Updated: 31 March 2017
Cayman Brac FC gets a bye during the first round of the Cayman Islands Football Association’s Men’s FA Cup, while cup holders Elite SC open their title defence against First Division side East End United.
The draw was overseen by CIFA First Vice President Bruce Blake live on Radio Cayman on Thursday, 30 March. First round matches will be played on 8 and 9 April at Ed Bush Sports Complex and the Annex.
Familiar foes, Latinos FC and Academy SC meet once again in the opening round of tournament play, after doing so in last year’s tournament and this season’s President Cup. Latinos has gotten the better of Academy on both occasions.
Sunset FC and North Side SC, which last saw each other in a playoff last season to determine who would play in the Cayman Premier League and who would be in the First Division, meet again in the opening round.
Another intriguing match-up is a derby of West Bay clubs Future SC and Alliance FC. Future leads the First Division in its quest to gain automatic promotion to the Cayman Premier League next season, while newcomers Alliance are still in contention for a potential promotion place.
Quite a few young players should feature in the match-up between Savannah Tigers and Cayman Athletic. Meantime, with Bodden Town FC coasting towards another premier league title, they face a George Town FC squad with an eye on promotion after being relegated for the first time at the end of last season.
An intriguing match-up sees premier league clubs Scholars International and Roma United meeting again after close games in league play this season.
The winners advance to the quarterfinals on 7 May.
