Forbes opens season at Millrose Games
- Updated: 14 February 2017
North Side’s Ronald Forbes finished eighth in the 60m hurdles, as he opened his 2017 season at the Millrose Games in New York on Saturday, 11 February, 2017.
Forbes, a three-time Olympian for the Cayman Islands, ran in lane eight in a field led by 2016 Olympic 110m hurdles gold medalist Omar McLeod of Jamaica. All runners finished in under eight seconds.
McLeod led the way home, finishing in 7.46 seconds, ahead of American Aleec Harris and Eddie Lovett of the United States Virgin Islands.
Forbes trailed the field to the line in 7.85 seconds, despite having one of the faster reaction times. His personal best in the event was 7.58 seconds in 2008.
The 31-year-old was one of two track and field athletes representing the Cayman Islands at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro last August. It was his first time on the track in about three months after a leg injury sidelined him in the run-up to the event.
He is the reigning 110m hurdles champion at the Island Games and is a lock to repeat, if he makes the trip to Gotland.
