Heavy scoring in top-of-table clash
- Updated: 15 February 2017
The top two teams in the CIFA First Division scored eight goals between them when they met at the Ed Bush Sports Complex in the latest round of games on 11 February, 2017.
Future SC entered the clash against George Town SC one point ahead of the former leaders, who were coming in seeking to halt a two-game skid.
Mark Ebanks put Future ahead in the 3rd minute, when he headed home a corner kick from Colby Seymour.
Ariel Tatum levelled the scores 28 minutes later, doing what he does best – making the most of a dead ball situation (see video below) before Michael Johnson put Future back out front in the 39th.
With only three goals scored in the first half, there was a flurry to follow in the second 45. Tex Whitelock joined in the scoring in the 53rd, only for Ebanks to secure himself a brace six minutes later, converting a penalty kick. Whitelock, wearing the captain’s armband for the boys from the capital, struck again in the 69th minute.
Johnson ensured Ebanks was not the only Future player with a brace, when he added a second in the 87th minute to give Future a 4-3 lead with the clock ticking toward full-time. Whitelock’s goal in the 90th minute gave him a hat-trick but, more importantly, secured a 4-4 draw.
Meantime, Savannah Tigers picked up their second win in eight games, edging North Side 3-2. Jossue Miller, Gonzalo McLaughlin Jr, and Jamaar Frederick scored for the youthful Tigers side, while Quwayne Feron and Guiton King found the back of the net for North Side. That was King’s league-leading 11th goal this season.
Cayman Brac FC won by a wide 6-1 margin over Academy SC. Nicholas Scott and Jamie Sanford each scored twice, while Brian Martin added another for Brac. An own goal from Academy’s Virgil Seymour added to their tally. Dominic Owens scored for Academy.
In the weekend’s other game, a brace from Javon Taylor led Alliance past Elite SC 2-0 and leapfrogged George Town for second place.
