Testori wins championship opener

Michael Testori continued his good run of form, winning the first race of the 2017 Cycling Championships Series on Sunday, 11 June.
Testori, 23, was fastest among open category riders, who completed the three-lap, 57-mile road race on a loop from Clifton Hunter High School through East End and along the Queen’s Highway in two hours, 25 minutes and 35.429 seconds. He travelled at an average speed of 23.491 miles per hour.
Second was James Smith (2:25:36.146) and Jerome Ameline was third (2:25:37.146).
Masters riders (40 and over) completed two laps, with James Melen winning in 1:41:43.429, followed by Daniel Cummings (1:41:48.901) and Laurent Weber (1:42:00.030),
Cereta Harvey was the sole female rider on the day, finishing her two loops in 1:51:55.262.

The final race of the Cayman Islands Cycling Association’s Championship Series is the 24-mile Individual Time Trial, which starts and finishes in front of the Clifton Hunter High School on Frank Sound Road. It takes place this Sunday, 18 June, starting at 7:00 a.m.
